Energizer considers closing Swiss battery plant

Energizer Holdings has set a March deadline to decide whether it will close an alkaline battery manufacturing and packaging plant in Switzerland.

The potential closure is part of a restructuring effort of its global battery operations that Town & Country-based Energizer initiated last November. One of the goals of the restructuring plan is to streamline the company's worldwide manufacturing operations.

The battery plant in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, has 226 employees. In the press release, Energizer said if it closes the plant, it will offer severance packages, early retirement for qualified employees and outplacement services.
